Jamie Reilly, PhD

professor and Lab Director

Jamie Reilly is a Professor in the College of Public Health at Temple University (Philadelphia, PA). Jamie's undergraduate training was in Anthropology and Russian Language at Tulane University (New Orleans, LA). He taught elementary school in Seoul, South Korea before returning to the US to complete clinical training in Speech-Language Pathology at Temple University (2001). As a clinician, Jamie developed a keen interest in the treatment of dementia and progressive language disorders (e.g., primary progressive aphasia). He then pivoted from his clinical training to complete a PhD in Cognitive Psychology with a concentration in psycholinguistics (Temple University, 2005). The culmination of all these academic interests involved an NIH/NIA T32 postdoctoral fellowship in the Cognitive Neuroscience of Language under the direction of the legendary neurologist, Murray Grossman MD, at the University of Pennsylvania (2005-07).

Jamie worked as an Assistant Professor at the University of Florida (2007-13). He escaped that fiery conservative inferno, returning home to Temple University in 2014. Jamie’s primary appointment is in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders. He holds secondary and/or courtesy appointments in Neuroscience and Psychology. He has recently contributed to news stories on dementia, cognition, and cognitive testing in the US Presidential election (2024). His work on the neuropsychology of cursing was featured in Discover Magazine and Slate. He serves as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Neuropsychology and sits on the editorial boards of Neuropsychologia, Aphasiology, Neuropsychological Rehabilitation, and Cognitive Science.
